‘We think of ourselves as a school family—everyone is important and many parts make up a whole’
Our curriculum is carefully planned to challenge and stimulate the imagination of enquiring minds. The child is very much at the centre of the curriculum. Small class sizes and an excellent staff/pupil ratio enable each pupil to feel valued and to progress at their own pace.
There is much to look forward to during the school day. Literacy and numeracy are taught in the morning to lay firm foundations in reading, spelling and mathematical skills. We work to provide knowledge ‘hooks’ for children to build up a net of general knowledge. We develop their independent learning skills through a wider curriculum of science, geography and history projects and through RE/PSHE, music, art, design and technology, ICT and the performing arts. The children swim weekly and enjoy a rich PE programme taught substantially by specialists. Full use is made of all the facilities of the Main School such as the indoor pool, chapel, gym and sports fields. Playtime is in the large walled garden. The children are taken out of school for educational visits and learn much from visiting speakers.
Independence and self-confidence are encouraged through a busy calendar of events such as concerts, class plays, chapel assemblies, nativity plays, poetry competitions and sports days. A warm, friendly environment with dedicated and experienced staff ensures that children feel happy, self-confident and open to learning.
The school day is from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., but is extended with pre- and after-school care and Pre-Prep clubs to become 8.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
