Ten Smallwood Pupils Gain Scholarships
May 12, 2009
Smallwood Manor Preparatory School is celebrating after achieving the highest number of scholarship awards for seven years.
Eight year-six pupils from the school have secured scholarships to Denstone College, one scooped the Guild Award at Abbots Bromley, and another two pupils achieved the highest grades in the Foremarke and Abbots Bromley Scholarship examinations. Four of these pupils also secured scholarships for music and sporting tuition in addition to their academic awards.
To gain entrance to their chosen college, every pupil must sit examinations in English, mathematics, and science — and the pupils achieving the highest grades are then awarded scholarships. Where applicable, pupils can also be assessed on their musical, artistic, and sporting abilities and if successful will receive scholarships for additional tuition in these subjects.
This is the highest number of scholarship awards the school has seen since 2002. Pupils achieving success in this year’s examinations were:

| David Glanville | Top Academic Scholarship/Music Exhibition | Foremarke |

In addition to the 11 pupils who have achieved scholarships, all other Smallwood Manor pupils have enjoyed academic success in the entry examinations and have secured places at their chosen schools.
Speaking about the scholarships head teacher Christopher Cann said:
‘This is a tremendous achievement and I am extremely proud of both the 11 pupils who achieved scholarships as well as all the other year six pupils who gained entrance to the schools of their choice.
‘I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the teaching staff at Smallwood Manor for providing an enriching environment that helps every child to learn and achieve their full potential.’
